Tehran (IP) - The Iranian President called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) a multilateral international agreement ratified by UN Security Council Resolution 2231, saying: "The JCPOA can not be renegotiated in any way, and the only way to maintain and revive it is the lifting of US sanctions."

Iran Press/Iran News: Hassan Rouhani, in a telephone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday, stressed that the loss of opportunities to maintain and revive JCPOA could make the situation more difficult.

The gradual reduction of Iran's commitments was due to the withdrawal of the United States from JCPOA and the three European countries' inability to fulfill their obligations, Rouhani added in the conversation initiated by his French counterpart.

Rouhani considered the cancellation of the voluntary implementation of the Additional Protocol by Iran within the framework of the parliamentary law and said: "Our cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) continues, and we have never left JCPOA."

The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran emphasized: "Any unconstructive action or position in the IAEA Board of Governors can lead to new challenges and complicate the situation."

Rouhani named France as an important player and said Tehran-Paris relations could be developed based on a sustainable vision and with long-term goals for joint bilateral, regional, and global cooperation.

He also referred to the Coronavirus pandemic in different countries of the world, including Iran and France, adding: "Cruel and illegal US sanctions have made it more difficult for Iran to tackle the disease, and access its financial resources, even for medicine and medical equipment, and the European Union, especially France, is expected not to remain silent in the face of this inhumane act."

For his part, the French President called the preservation of JCPOA a necessity for the international community and stressed the continuation of the talks to return all parties to the full implementation of their commitments.

Emmanuel Macron stressed, "Europe is ready to be more active in the coming weeks to revive JCPOA."
