Damascus (IP) - The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran met with the Syrian Foreign and Information Ministers in Damascus on Wednesday to discuss bilateral ties.

Iran PressMiddle East: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh and Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Mikdad met to discuss bilateral relations, especially in the political, media, scientific, and cultural fields.

The two sides also discussed regional developments and the importance of strengthening relations and consultations between the two countries at all levels to advance bilateral relations.

Referring to the inhumane effects of unilateral economic sanctions imposed on the Syrian people, the Syrian Foreign Minister stressed the need for joint efforts between Damascus and Tehran to address common challenges that threaten the security and peace of the region.

Al-Mikdad also reiterated Syria's support for Iran's position on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and Damascus' opposition to efforts to distort Iran's image.

During the meeting, Khatibzadeh reiterated Iran's support for Damascus to reach a solution that could restore security and stability throughout Syria and maintain its sovereignty, independence, and unity.

Syrian Information Minister Imad Sarah, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman also noted, the countries that started the terrorist war against Syria failed to achieve their goals and resorted to economic and media war to limit the Syrian people. They distorted public opinion by distorting the facts, which requires cooperation and coordination to deal with it in the media space.

The Syrian Minister of Information stressed the importance of media cooperation to combat the media war that has targeted the two countries.
