Tehran (IP) - Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman stated that if the commitments of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) signatories are not fulfilled by late February, the voluntary implementation of the Additional Protocol will definitely be stopped.

Iran PressIran News: About the implementation of the parliament's resolution regarding the suspension of the voluntary implementation of the Additional Protocol on February 21, Saeed Khatibzadeh said: "Minor technical issues should be asked from the spokesman of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). In the first week of next Persian month starting from February 19, according to technical studies, Iran is definitely obliged to suspend the voluntary implementation of the Additional Protocol, according to a law passed by the parliament, if the obligations of the other JCPOA signatories have not been fulfilled by that deadline. It does not take time and can be implemented any day.”

Khatibzadeh stated: "Extra-supervisory monitoring will be stopped, which is the monitoring that Iran has accepted within the framework of the protocol, and this does not mean the cessation of all monitoring. Iran will retain some of IAEA's monitoring. The Additional Protocol will definitely be stopped.”

The Foreign Ministry spokesman stated: "Iran's cooperation with the IAEA will continue, and Iran will inform the IAEA of all cases in a letter, and all these actions by Iran are easily reversible, provided that the other parties return to their obligations."

JCPOA in critical situation

Iran's foreign ministry spokesman stated that the 2015 Nuclear Deal was in a critical situation, and such tensions by the E3 (France, Germany and the UK) did not help it.

Asked about the E3's recent statement on JCPOA, Saeed Khatibzadeh noted that they had an easier way to end all tensions; that is, returning to their commitments.

Regarding the concerns of three European countries on the production of metallic uranium, Khatibzadeh pointed out that the issue of advanced reactor fuel was an old one, and Iran had always considered this in research and development of peaceful nuclear knowledge, and it was stopped because of the Nuclear Deal. "Metal uranium is a necessity to achieve this advanced fuel. Iran has not done anything but research and development for fuel. If the Europeans return to their commitments, Iran will return to its commitments the next day."

Regarding other countries' readiness for mediation between Iran and the United States, Khatibzadeh said: "We welcome everyone's help, and as close friends, there have always been close consultations between Iran and Qatar at different levels. Fulfilling US obligations does not require conveying messages. The way is open to the United States when it decides to distance itself from the previous administration's failed path, and it can easily do so. It is unfortunate that the current administration has become a partner in the previous administration's aggression and arrogance against Iran, and this is not a constructive process."

Iran's letter to IAEA

In response to a question about Iran's letter to the IAEA regarding the confidentiality of information, he said: "Regarding cooperation with the IAEA as a technical institution, we had the utmost cooperation. The information has been leaked several times in the past. The agency is responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of documents.”

Khatibzadeh added: "We are sorry for some serious negligence in the information provided to the agency in the past."

Reaction to US Secretary of State's tweet

In response to the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's tweet that principled diplomacy was the only way to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, Iran Foreign Ministry spokesman said: "The interpretation of the US Secretary of State's tweet is with them. Unfortunately, the United States continues to follow the wrong path of the previous government, and what is happening today is no different from before January 20, and the maximum pressure and crime against the Iranian nation and disregard for international rights still continues today.”

"This is not what we think," he said, adding: “The United States is still no different from the Trump era in terms of imposing sanctions. If the US goes on with the principled policy of returning to multilateralism, i.e. amending the wrong way, Iran will respond appropriately to US policy reform.”

Iran-Syria ties

Khatibzadeh referred to Senior Assistant to the Iranian Foreign Minister for Special Political Affairs Ali-Asghar Khaji's visit to Damascus and meeting with the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to continue pursuing a solution to the Syrian crisis.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman referred to the visit of the UN Secretary General's Special Envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths to Tehran, saying: "We hope that the results of this visit will help better resolve the issue of Yemen, which is a great sorrow for the region."

Raisi's trip to Iraq

He considered the visit of Iran’s Judiciary Chief Ebrahim Raisi to Iraq as one of the successful foreign visits, saying: “He was communicating in four areas: following the martyrdom of Lt. Gen. Soleimani, political relations, judicial and consular issues. Meetings were held in the best conditions and it was one of the most successful visits that have been taken.”
