Tehran (IP) - Iran's Health Minister says that Iran as it promised, is vaccinating medical staff (nurses, doctors, and those at ICU).

Iran Press/Iran News: Saeed Namaki said that today(Tuesday) around 635 state and private hospitals as well as charities will vaccinate their medical staff that is caring for COVID-19 patients.

Next spring, the domestic vaccine will be unveiled and injected to those in priority, Saeed Namaki noted.

He also said that Iran would enter vaccines from reliable countries until the end of February 2021 to vaccinate the first groups like the elderly over 65 and those with pre-existing conditions, and then 70 percent of Iranians.

Iran's Health Minister went on to say that despite sanctions when all the borders were closed to Iranians and health care items were not allowed to enter the country, Iranians through unity could succeed in fighting the coronavirus within a short period of time.

Namaki added that depending on knowledge-based companies to import and share knowledge, common vaccine manufacturing activities with the world, importing vaccine from reliable sources as well as passing three clinical trials, and producing any medicines said to be effective in fighting against the virus, Iran bravely has combated the COVID-19.

Iran has commenced its national vaccination process with target groups including medical staff (directly working with COVID-19 patients) elderly (over 65), and finally those with underlying diseases, Namaki noted.

Health Minister highlighted, "Iran will import vaccines from India and China via COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access codenamed as COVAX, but right now Russian V Sputnik is used."
