Tehran (IP) - Special Assistant to the Speaker of Iran’s Parliament for International Affairs has said that Iran considers the security of Iraq as its own security and strongly supports it.

Iran PressIran News: Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Special Assistant to the Speaker of Iran’s Parliament for International Affairs, during a meeting with Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq Affairs Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, emphasized the deep and strategic relations between the two countries, adding: "Tehran-Baghdad relations have always had a friendly and growing trend."

Amir-Abdollahian said: "The efforts of some countries, including the United States and Saudi Arabia, in managed and instrumental use of terrorism and inciting insecurity in Iraq and the region are among the causes of insecurity in Iraq and the region."

Referring to the assassinations of Generals Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis by the Trump administration, Amir Abdullahian stressed: "The United Nations must fulfill its international responsibility to ensure the security of the region in the assassination of General Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis."

"The roots of terrorism must be eradicated, and with the military defeat of ISIS, one cannot hope that they have been destroyed completely," said Hennis-Plasschaert, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq Affairs.

She noted that the United Nations seeks peace and security and will do its best to hold a peaceful election in Iraq.
