Moscow (IP) - Iran's Foreign Minister said that what is important for us in the new US administration is the behaviour of the Biden administration in the practical lifting of sanctions imposed on the Islamic Republic of Iran during the Trump era.

Iran Press/Iran News: Mohammad Javad Zarif in Moscow on Tuesday evening in response to the question of whether the election of people like Robert Mali as the representative of the new US administration for Iran can have an effect on reducing tensions between Tehran and Washington, said: "What matters to us in the new US administration is not the people."

He added: "Robert Mali has been involved in the nuclear talks and he is like the rest of the Biden team, but what is important to us and we will pay attention to it is the behavior of the Biden administration in the practical lifting of sanctions imposed on the Islamic Republic of Iran during the Trump era."

Zarif said: "When we see this behavior, we will definitely react to it."

Zarif said that Donald Trump left the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2018 and imposed sanctions on Iran, adding: "The United States even punished countries that complied with JCPOA."

Iran's foreign minister said: "We waited a year, we tried on the basis of JCPOA and we wanted to force European countries to implement it. In 2019, we announced that we would reduce our obligations, and in the same year, we started to reduce our obligations by following the strategy. Unfortunately, European countries have not been able to meet their obligations."

He continued: "If the American side ends its sanctions and refuses to interfere in Iran's economic cooperation with the world, and we see the results of this action, Tehran will fulfill its obligations in the UN Security Council."

The Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who arrived in Moscow on Tuesday in continuation of his regional visit for the purpose of bilateral and regional consultations after his visit to Baku, left Moscow for Yerevan on Tuesday evening.
