Tehran (IP) - Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman announced sanctions against senior US government officials for their role and involvement in terrorist and anti-human rights activities against the Islamic Republic of Iran and Iranian citizens.

Iran Press/Iran News: Saeed Khatibzadeh said: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran in observing "Combating human rights violations, adventurous and terrorist acts of the United States in the region," placed several American officials in the list of sanctions for violation of the basic rules and fundamental principles of international law.

Outgoing US President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, former Secretary of Defense Mark Speer, Acting Secretary of the Treasury Christopher Miller, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchein, Gina Hespel, head of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Former National Security Adviser John Bolton, Brian Hook, former head of the Action Group against Iran and former US State Department Special Representative for Iran, Elliott Abrams, Special Representative of the Secretary of State for Iran, and Andrea Gaki, in charge of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), are those who are on the sanctions list of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized: These people, for reasons such as issuing orders and directing the assassination of Lt. Gen Qasem Soleimani and his companions, organizing and supporting terrorist acts against the Islamic Republic of Iran, creating, financing, providing weapons, and training to terrorist groups, full support for the Zionist regime's repressions against the Palestinian people, especially the terrorist acts of this regime in the assassination of the scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh.

Khatibzadeh added: Imposing oppressive sanctions, illegal and unilateral actions against the Islamic Republic of Iran and the people of Iran and deliberate action to impose special living conditions on Iranians, including by denying them access to food, medicine, services, and medical equipment, supporting the repressive regimes in the region and supporting the crimes against humanity and war crimes of the mentioned regimes in Yemen, active and comprehensive communication with MKO terrorist group and political, propaganda and cultural support of this group, which has committed numerous terrorist acts against the interests of the government and citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran, are other reasons for boycotting these people.

Khatibzadeh said: "According to international legal principles, the imposition of unilateral sanctions (unilateral coercive measures), a gross violation of the fundamental principles of international law enshrined in the UN Charter and in violation of international law, including international humanitarian law and prevent Human rights are being realized.

Accordingly, the Islamic Republic of Iran reserves the right to take the necessary measures to counter US violations in all areas, MFA Spox said.
