Quake

A moderate magnitude 5.5 earthquake shook the port of Kong, 60 km northeast of Bandar-e Lengeh, Hormozgan province in southern Iran, and the western villages of Qeshm Island early on Saturday.

According to the Iranian Seismological Center, the epicenter was at a depth of 19 km, 28 km from Bandar Kong, and 34 km from Bandar Lengeh in the Persian Gulf.

Local officials said that assessment teams have been deployed to the area and so far no damage has been reported from the quake.

At 1:33 a.m., a magnitude 2.9 earthquake shook the region for the second time.
