PMU: US continues to violate Iraqi sovereignty

The Chairman of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) (known as Al-Hashd al-Shabi organization) called the US government's move to include a member of the organization, in its sanctions list a violation of Iraqi sovereignty.

Iran Press/Middle East: The United States on Wednesday imposed sanctions on Iraqi Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) and Hezbollah Brigades militia leader Abdulaziz al-Mohammadawi, known as Abu Fadak, as it designated him a global terrorist figure.

The move by the US Treasury against Mohammadawi was expected by many Iraqi officials. It was also the second time in a week that a senior Iraqi militia official has been sanctioned.

"Those people made a covenant to defend the land and the holy places, and what can harm them when the authority and the nation put them on their lists of honour and pride and recorded their names in the records of the defenders and liberators of the land and honour in the best heroism that the contemporary history of Iraq has seen." said the chairman of the Popular Mobilization Forces, Falih al-Fayyadh in a statement.

al-Fayyadh added: “The United States, which pretends to be the advocate and guardian of the world and, according to its habit, violates the sovereignty of countries and damages the dignity of nations, has recently included the name of Abdulaziz al-Mohammadawi, known as Abu Fadak in its sanctions list and by doing so, it has violated the sovereignty of Iraq and underestimated the Iraqi government.”

Al-Fayadh stressed: "It is unacceptable that those, who fought terrorism and sacrificed a lot and, on behalf of the world, waged the fiercest battles to oust ISIS terrorists as the most violent force of darkness and extremism and to thwart their project aimed at destroying Iraq and the region and shedding blood, to be classified as terrorists, while the United States announces in its long and absurd claims that it is fighting against these terrorists.”
