US representatives have returned to the congress to continue counting Electoral College votes after a large crowd of angry rioters stormed the building and sent members of Congress fleeing in an unprecedented event.

Iran PressAmerica: According to US media, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi vowed to resume the interrupted proceedings Wednesday evening. Senators returned to the Capitol under heavy guard, carrying with them the certificates of electoral votes that were rescued from rioters who broke into the chamber earlier in the day.

Hours after large crowds of Trump supporters barged across what proved to be feeble and poorly guarded barricades, and at least one person was fatally shot, the general atmosphere on the streets outside of the US congress appears to be relatively quiet even as the Congress is on its way to finishing what it started today.

House and Senate members have pledged to continue proceedings to tally President-elect Joe Biden's Electoral College victory.

D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser implemented a citywide curfew, however, hundreds of pro-Trump rioters milled about the grounds of the Congress they'd stormed but they faced no imminent threat of arrest, though they are largely outnumbered by local, regional and federal law enforcement.

Earlier today, Trump supporters stormed into the Congress building and tried to enter the building as the counting of the electoral college was underway, all the doors of Congress were locked and even a CNN reporter could not get out of the building.

There are reports of guns drawn in the building and at least one person shot.

One woman has been shot and is in critical condition according to reports from US broadcaster CNN.

There has been an armed confrontation at the doors of the House of Representatives. Tear gas has also been used.

Members of Congress have been told to evacuate the building or remain where they are. One congresswoman tweeted that she was staying in her office. 219
