Washington to be held accontable for any adventure: Zarif

Tehran (IP) - Speaking to his Kuwaiti counterpart, the Iranian foreign minister pointed to the US mischief in the Persian Gulf and blamed Washington for the consequences of any possible adventure.

Iran PressIran news: In a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif at the beginning of the new year, Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nasser al-Muhammad al-Sabah discussed the latest issues of bilateral relations and regional developments.

In the conversation, the Iranian Foreign Minister explained the Islamic Republic's position on ensuring comprehensive stability and security away from foreign interference, and pointed to some suspicious movements and mischief of the United States in the region, saying: "The consequences of any possible adventure will be borne by Washington."

Iranian Foreign Minister on Thursday in a tweet said that Intelligence from Iraq indicates a plot to fabricate a pretext for war.

"Iran doesn't seek war but will OPENLY and DIRECTLY defend its people, security and vital interests," the minister said.

The tweet came after two American B-52 bombers flew a nonstop, 30-plus-hour, round-trip mission from the United States to the Middle East.

meanwhile, The Pentagon announced on Thursday that the USS Nimitz the only Navy aircraft carrier operating in the Middle East would return from the Persian Gulf to Bremerton, Washington, a move that would reduce the US military presence in the region.

US officials told Reuters that the departure of the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier from the Persian Gulf region was aimed at easing tensions in the region.
