Iran warns UNSC over US adventurism in Persian Gulf

New York (IP) - The Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the UN warned the Security Council over any US military adventure in the Persian Gulf.

Iran PressIran News: In a letter to the Security Council on Thursday, the Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the UN announced that the US military adventurism in the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea has increased, particularly in the recent weeks. 

The letters said in addition to dispatching complex arms to the Persian Gulf in recent weeks, the US has taken some provoking actions such as flying a number of its long-range aircraft above the region.  

The mission also pointed to the continuation of the US' baseless accusations and threats against Iran which along with its pugnacious military moves have exacerbated the contentious the West Asian region. 

It stressed that if the warmongering moves of the US are not prevented, the situation will reach an alarming level and the US will be held accountable for the consequences.

The letter also emphasized that the ability of the Islamic Republic of Iran to defend its security, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and vital interests as well as its firm response to any threat must not be understated. 

The Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran pointed out the US moves in the Persian Gulf is in contrast with the UN goals and principles, calling on the Security Council to force the US to adhere the international law. 

This letter came after two American B-52 bombers flew over the Persian Gulf one week after US President Trump threatened to retaliate against alleged Iran's involvement in the attack at the US Embassy in Baghdad on Dec 20.
