Pakistani thinkers at a roundtable conference in Islamabad addressed recent riots in Iran saying the U.S.-Israeli-backed elements turned people's economic protest into violence to overthrow Islamic republic of Iran.

Why it matters:

The riots took place to fabricate casualties in order to manipulate the general public perception Iran, an issue that has not remained hidden from the region's thinkers.

Details:

The conference was addressed by the President of the Institute, Ambassador Johar Saleem, Rear Admiral (retd) Syed Faisal Bukhari, and The Counter Narrative Editor Javed Rana, while the Chairman of the Iqbal Forum, Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, participated online from Tehran. A large number of teachers and students of international affairs, especially Iran Studies, attended the conference on this important topic.

What they're saying:

Speaking on the occasion, the speakers said:

  • Violent elements were included in the peaceful demonstrations and then an attempt was made to use these demonstrations to overthrow the Iranian regime.

  • This conspiracy failed, but there was considerable loss of life and property. Not only were public and government properties burned, but also innocent citizens were targeted.

  • The aim of all this was to change the regime in Iran, but then millions of citizens took to the streets across Iran in favor of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and the Islamic system and strangled this external conspiracy.

  • All friendly countries, including Pakistan, want no tension to arise in the region and that issues with the United States should be resolved through dialogue.
