Iran’s Permanent Mission UN Organization in Geneva dismissed a newly adopted UN Human Rights Council resolution on the country, calling it a politically motivated move devoid of genuine human‑rights concerns.

Why it matters:

The resolution was passed during a special session of the UN Human Rights Council, backed by several European countries. It came as the U.S.-Israeli-linked agenst in Iran turned the economic protests of people in some parts of the country into riots.

What's happened:

The resolution was adopted at the end of Friday’s special session, which Iran describes as politically driven and ill‑considered.

The big picture:

On January 8-9, terrorist armed elements supported by the U.S. and Israel launched a terrorist operation in several cities in Iran. Setting public property and killing security defenders and civilians, they attempted to raise the casualties, paving the way for a U.S. attack on Iran. According to Iranian officials, this terrorist operation led to 3,117 fatalities, of whom 2,427 are martyrs.

What the statement's saying:

Iran states that Western states selectively use human‑rights mechanisms to exert political pressure. Tehran notes that it has strong domestic accountability systems and insists that all recent detentions and investigations will be handled through national legal processes. The government also blames the resolution’s sponsors of ignoring the humanitarian impact of sanctions and Israel’s military actions, which Iran considers have harmed thousands of its citizens.
