New Zealand condemns Fakhrizadeh assassination

Wellington (IP) - In a letter to the head of Iran's diplomatic service, New Zealand's new foreign minister expressed deep concern over the assassination of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, a prominent Iranian scientist, and condemned any extrajudicial killings and violence, especially against civilians.

Iran PressAsia: New Zealand's new Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta thanked Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif for taking up his new post in an official letter thanking him after receiving a letter of congratulations, the Iranian embassy in Wellington announced.

In the letter, he expressed the New Zealand government's deep concern over the assassination of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, the prominent Iranian scientist, and condemned any extrajudicial killings and violence, especially against civilians.

New Zealand's new foreign minister has expressed hope that the move not to escalate tensions in the Middle East.

Noting that New Zealand opened its first embassy in the Middle East in Iran in 1975, Mahuta described bilateral relations with Iran as important, warm, and strong.

He emphasized the importance of multilateralism in the world in dealing with such threats, citing the Covid-19 pandemic crisis and the fact that we are all on the same boat.
