Iran's Parliament opposes lifting of age limit for presidential candidates

Tehran (IP) - MPs in an open session on Tuesday opposed the removal of the age limit of at least 40 and at most 70 years for candidacy in the presidential election.

Iran PressIran news: The plan to amend the presidential election law was on the agenda of the Islamic Consultative Assembly today.

After Mohsen Zanganeh, a representative of Torbat Heydariyeh, explained his proposal to remove the age limit for candidates of the presidential election (removing the age limit of at least 40 and at most 70), the MPs opposed the removal.

Mohammad Javad Kolivand, the parliamentary deputy of the Ministry of Interior, also agreed with the proposal to remove the age of presidential candidates. The Republic was considered.

The members of the Islamic Consultative Assembly in today's (Tuesday, December 16) public session of the Islamic Consultative Assembly and during the examination of the details of the amendment to the articles of the Presidential Election Law of Iran decided that presidential candidates should not be citizens of other countries.

The MPs approved this condition by amending part 2, paragraph A, Article 1 of the bill in relation to the conditions of the presidential candidates with 193 votes in favor, 31 votes against, and 2 abstentions from a total of 247 deputies present in the court.
