Why it matters:
Since the start of Israel's violent attacks on the Palestinian people in October 2023, the residents of the Gaza Strip have lost their homes and lives. Almost all cities have been subjected to evacuation orders at various times, while people have also suffered from starvation and, in some cases, lost parts of their bodies.
Following the ceasefire agreement, people of Gaza have begun returning to their homes, homes that in many cases no longer exist, leaving them with no choice but to rebuild. Palestinians emphasize their commitment to remain on their land, regardless of the conditions.
The big picture:
The Ministry of Interior in Gaza announced that police and security forces have been deployed in the areas from which the Israeli army has withdrawn to restore order. It also urged citizens to protect public and private property and to follow the directives of the relevant authorities.
According to the local Palestinian outlets, bulldozers are clearing roads in the city’s neighborhoods as part of the emergency plan announced by the Government of Gaza. It states that it has completed over 5,000 field and service tasks within 24 hours, including debris removal, securing water, garbage collection, and maintaining sewage networks.
The removal of debris is expected to continue for an extended period due to the extensive destruction of infrastructure and housing across various areas of the Gaza Strip.
The return of displaced residents began on Friday after the Zionist Regime Army withdrew from Gaza (except for some eastern neighborhoods) and from parts of Khan Yunis and Al-Wusta. At the same time, the siege on Beit Hanoun, Beit Lahia, Rafah, and the Gaza Sea remains in place.

Hamas reached a comprehensive ceasefire agreement with the Israeli regime, which includes an end to the war, Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and a prisoner exchange.
