Trump unveiled the 20-point framework Monday in Washington in a press conference alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The framework includes an alleged ceasefire, hostage release, and a redevelopment blueprint for Gaza. Critics say the plan ignores the root causes of the ongoing war on Gaza and legitimizes the Israeli occupation of the besieged territory.
Netanyahu claimed Israel had agreed to the proposal. Hamas has not issued a formal response.
In a social media post, Trump urged “all innocent Palestinians” to evacuate besieged areas for “safer parts of Gaza,” despite widespread reports that such zones have been repeatedly targeted by Israeli airstrikes.
What he’s saying:
“The details of the document are known to the world, and it is a great one for all!” Trump wrote. “There will be peace in the Middle East one way or the other.” He demanded Hamas release all hostages, including the bodies of the dead, and warned that failure to comply would trigger unprecedented retaliation, a statement widely interpreted as a green light for further Israeli aggression.
Flashback:
This is not Trump’s first threat. On March 6, he issued a “last warning” during direct hostage talks, saying Gaza would “turn into hell” if Hamas rejected the ceasefire terms.
Zoom out:
Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric comes as global outrage mounts over Israel’s continued blockade and military campaign in Gaza.
Humanitarian organizations have condemned the so-called “safe zones” in southern Gaza, with the UN describing them as “places of death.”
UNICEF has warned that overcrowding, lack of food, and repeated bombings make survival nearly impossible for displaced civilians.
By the numbers:
227 Palestinians were injured in Israeli airstrikes over the past 24 hours, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
Since Oct. 7, 2023, the death toll in Gaza has reached 66,288, with 169,165 wounded.
Thousands more are believed to be buried under the rubble of destroyed buildings across the Strip.
