Iran’s state broadcaster and Tajikistan have launched their first co-produced film, Fish On The Hook (Mahi dar Gholab), at a ceremony in Tehran attended by senior Iranian officials, Tajik filmmakers, and diplomats.

Why it matters:

The project reflects efforts by Tehran and Dushanbe to strengthen ties through cultural diplomacy at a time when both governments are seeking greater regional influence and unity around shared Persian heritage.

The big picture:

The film, directed by Mohiuddin Muzaffar, focuses on universal human values often overlooked in today’s turbulent world.

The premiere was hosted at the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) International Conference Center, with the participation of Peyman Jebelli, the head of the IRIB, and the president of the Academy of Persian Language and Literature.

What they’re saying:

Nizomiddin Zahidi, Tajikistan’s ambassador to Iran, said that in today’s turbulent world, cultural diplomacy is vital for bringing nations closer, adding that a joint film project like this demonstrates how Iran and Tajikistan can build bridges between the two nations.
