Venezuela's oil minister says security forces have thwarted a bomb plot at one of the country's main refineries.

Iran PressAmerica: Venezuela's oil minister said on Friday that security forces had foiled a plot to attack one of the country's key refineries. Venezuelan Oil Minister Tareck Zaidan El Aissami said security forces arrested two Venezuelans on Thursday and confiscated explosives they were planning to detonate at the El Palito refinery.

Venezuelan television broadcast images of the explosives and other materials in support of the oil minister's remarks. The two saboteurs have confessed to taking orders from Colombian authorities.

Al-Assami called on Venezuelan oil workers to be vigilant amid threats from hostile countries such as the United States and Colombia which intend to harm Venezuela.

The US government is trying to oust the government of Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela and has imposed sanctions on the country.

A few days ago, Maduro announced that his assassination plan had been foiled on the day of the parliamentary elections.

In January 2019, Venezuela's opposition leader Juan Guaidó, in coordination with the US government, declared himself president of Venezuela and was quickly recognized by Washington and a group of allies.

After announcing its support for Juan Guaidó, Trump launched a concerted effort to overthrow the Maduro administration, but his policy and sanctions against Venezuela ultimately failed. 219
