Spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry noted that any Iranian interaction with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) must take place based on the parliament's recent resolution in this regard.

Why it matters:

Baghaei's statements highlight Iran's ongoing commitment to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement; however, if pressure is put on Iran and its rights are violated, the situation may change.

The big picture:

Iran remains a member of the NPT and the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement, asserting that it will uphold its commitments as long as it is a signatory to these documents.

What he's saying:

Esmaeil Baghaei stated, "Currently, there is no inspector from the IAEA in Iran. The IAEA should conduct its activities in accordance with the parliament's most recent resolution. The government and the Foreign Ministry feel it is their duty to align their interactions with the IAEA based on this parliamentary resolution."

He stated that the E3's potential abuse of the trigger mechanism to reimpose sanctions would have consequences for the NPT and the three countries themselves.
