Why it matters:
In a brief statement via Telegram, Hamas said it is reviewing a proposal received from mediators “in line with the movement’s commitment to ending Israeli aggression against our people and ensuring the free flow of humanitarian aid.”
The big picture:
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed the Israeli regime has already accepted the ceasefire proposal and that “the ball is now in Hamas’s court.”
According to Israel's Yedioth Ahronoth, the proposed agreement includes:
- A 60-day truce
- The release of 10 living captives and 18 deceased in five stages
- The release of Palestinian prisoners in exchange
- Gradual Israeli withdrawal from parts of Gaza
- A significant increase in humanitarian aid
What they're saying:
Hamas statement: “The movement is consulting with the leadership of Palestinian groups regarding the proposal received from mediators. A final decision will be communicated once consultations are complete.”
Israeli official (via Yedioth Ahronoth): “The ceasefire would include the phased release of hostages—both living and deceased—and significant humanitarian access.”
Egyptian official told the Associated Press: “Previous disputes over aid logistics have been resolved, and international guarantees are in place to initiate negotiations for ending the war.”
