New York (IP) - The Counsellor of Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations called the assassination of martyr Mohsen Fakhrizadeh a desperate attempt to endanger international and regional peace and a blatant crime of state terrorism that should be strongly condemned.

Iran PressAmerica: Mohammad-Reza Sahraei raised this issue at the UN General Assembly on Wednesday evening, which was held on the subject of Palestine and the adoption of five anti-Zionist resolutions.

He added: "During this decade, several prominent Iranian scientists have been assassinated in several violent terrorist attacks. Our strong evidence clearly shows that some countries were behind such assassinations.”

Iran's representative to the United Nations General Assembly Fourth Committee continued: “On November 27, 2020, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, a prominent Iranian scientist, was assassinated in a brutal terrorist attack in the city of Absard, Tehran Province.”

Sahraei added: “One of the latest projects carried out by Shahid Fakhrizadeh was his prominent role in the production of the first native COVID-19 test kit, as a major contribution to the control of the pandemic, at a time when Iran is under inhumane US sanctions that severely prevent us from having access to humanitarian goods, including medicines and medical equipment.”

He added: "Martyr Fakhrizadeh also supervised the development of the COVID-19 vaccine, which can not only curb its spread but also help defend the people of our country."

Sahraei stressed that the cowardly assassination of Martyr Fakhrizadeh - with a serious reference to Israel's responsibility - is another disappointing attempt to jeopardize international and regional peace.

He added: "In fact, committing such a reckless and criminal act is a clear manifestation of state terrorism, which must be strongly and immediately condemned by the international community."

Sahraei stated: “The Islamic Republic of Iran reserves the right to take all necessary measures to defend the people and secure its interests.”

Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, head of the Research and Innovation Organization of the Ministry of Defense and a scientist in the country's nuclear industry, was martyred on Friday (November 27th) in a terrorist attack around Tehran.
