Iran Press/ commentary: It is not the first time that the Saudi Aramco oil facilities have been targeted by missile attacks of the Yemeni popular committees.
In September 2019 Saudi Aramco oil facilities were also attacked, inflicting heavy economic losses on Saudi Arabia.
Yesterday missile attack considered a significant event for several reasons the most important of which are as the following:
The first was that the attacks coincided with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's visit to Saudi Arabia. Although Benjamin Netanyahu remained silent about his visit to Saudi Arabia, most news sources also confirmed the Israeli Prime Minister's visit to the Middle Eastern country. In other words, the missile attack on Aramco in Jeddah coincided with Netanyahu's visit to Saudi Arabia. Thus, the attack signaled an act of power and served as a warning to Saudi Arabia and Israel in the West Asian region.
The second reason was the type of missile used in the attack. Yemeni army spokesman Yahya Saree said the Quds 2 cruise missile was used in the attack. Yahya Sari stressed that the Quds missile is a new generation of winged missiles produced by the Yemeni Missile Unit and launched after successful operations in the depths of Saudi Arabia that were not announced. Thus, a new Yemeni missile was unveiled in the attack on the Aramco facility in Jeddah.
The third one is that the distance between Jeddah and the borders of Yemen is more than 650 km. The Saudi aerospace is protected by the American Patriot advanced anti-missile system. In other words, the Quds 2 missile has advanced technology that reduces the possibility of interception and destruction. In this sense, the missile attack on the Aramco facility in Jeddah is both an important achievement for the Yemeni army and popular committees and a warning to Saudi Arabia, as it demonstrates the potential for more attacks by the Yemenis.
The fourth feature of yesterday's attack on the Aramco facility was the fact that it was launched just two days after the liberation of the strategic Maas base in Ma'rib. In fact, the attack was the second strong blow by the Yemeni army and popular committees to the Saudi coalition in just two days. At the same time, the simultaneous attack with the liberation of the Mass strategic base proved that the Yemeni army and popular committees have the potential for simultaneous multilateral attacks and that this is an important development for the Yemenis.
The fifth reason was the defensive dimension of the attack. Yesterday's attacks on the Aramco facility were carried out in response to the Saudi coalition's ongoing attacks on Yemen, as well as its continued inhumane actions, including blocking the docking of oil tankers and fuel-carrying ships in the ports of the Yemeni National Salvation Government. On November 11, 2020, the Ansarullah movement threatened Saudi Arabia with widespread attacks in the coming days in response to the continued closure of airports and ports. The warning was to liberate the Maas base and launch a missile attack on the Aramco facility in Jeddah.
The final point is that; the liberation of the strategic Maas base and the missile attack on the Aramco facility in Jeddah proved once again that the deterrent power of the army and the popular committees continues to increase, and this again changes the balance of power on the battlefield.
