Iran Press/Iran News: Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Special Assistant to the Speaker of Iran’s parliament for International Affairs, met with the United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen, saying that some dangerous terrorist groups are trying to change their names so that they would be removed from the UN blacklist.
Iran continues to strongly support Syria and the security of this important country in the region while emphasizing impartial judgment on Syria and supporting the constructive efforts of the United Nations to help the war-torn country, he stressed.
Amir-Abdollahian also called the imposition of sanctions on Syria, especially in the areas of medicine, medical equipment, and food, cruel, and stressed the need to take action to lift humanitarian sanctions.
During the event, the United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen praised Iran's constructive efforts in the fight against terrorism in Syria, noting the humanitarian support of the Islamic Republic of Iran for the return of Syrian refugees and the displaced to their homes, saying: “We must take the human rights situation of the refugees in the Syrian issue very seriously.”
