A majority of Californians are under a nighttime curfew beginning Saturday as surging coronavirus cases threaten to swamp health care systems

Iran Press/America: According to local news outlets, the newest restrictions require people to stay home from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. unless they are responding to an emergency, shopping for groceries, picking up takeout. The curfew will last until December 21, with a possible extension if rapidly worsening trends don’t improve.

Authorities say the focus is on keeping people from social mixing the kinds of activities that are blamed for causing COVID-19 infections to soar after dipping only a few months ago.

With COVID-19 spreading at a rapid rate, officials have warned that other public health interventions may become necessary to stem transmission.

On 21 November, the number of people infected by the coronavirus in the US surpassed the 12 million mark Saturday, according to Johns Hopkins University. 

The Maryland-based school recorded 12,019,960 cases and 255,414 deaths.
