The US Treasury Department on Monday imposed sanctions on several individuals, companies and government agencies in the wake of Washington's hostile actions against Syria.

Among the Syrian companies and institutions sanctioned by the US Treasury Department are the Syrian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, the State Institute for Oil Refining and Distribution of Petroleum Products, as well as the Syrian National Defense Forces.

The US Treasury Department has also sanctioned eight Syrian individuals, including the head of the Syrian Air Force Intelligence Service, the director-general of the Syrian Political Security Directorate, and two members of parliament.

In addition to sanctioning the individuals, institutions and companies mentioned above, the US has also sanctioned several individuals and Chinese companies, as well as Hong Kongese and Lebanese, in connection with the violation of sanctions against Syria.

Since 2011, the United States has targeted Syria with various sanctions in support of terrorists.

The crisis in Syria began in 2011 with a massive offensive by terrorist groups backed by Saudi Arabia, the United States and their allies.
