Iran Press/ Iran News: On the sidelines of the start of Chabahar-Zahedan railway, Mohammad Eslami, in response to Iran Press question about the importance of developing Chabahar port in expanding regional cooperation, stated that Chabahar port is the gateway to Central Asia, as well as the north-south, and the east-west corridor.
Eslami added that the development of Chabahar port is important for the neighboring countries of Iran with the aim of economic development of these countries. Therefore, the development of this port continues seriously and its first phase with a capacity of about 10 million tons has been put into operation.
Noting that the railway connection from Chabahar to the north of the country is the longest and most strategic railway route in Iran, Eslami said that regional agreements with neighboring countries are crucial for Iran so that it can increase its transit share to connect the shores of the Indian Ocean to Russia, northern Central Asia, and the Caucasus.
The Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development noted that targeting 50 million tons of transit was a preliminary goal, and the main and key point of which is the completion of the Zahedan-Chabahar railway.
