Tehran (IP) - On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, Iran's foreign minister called on the United Nations to stand up against unilateralism and war.

Iran Press/Iran news: Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Monday at the ceremony of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations stated: "75 years ago, the United Nations was established to restore international peace and security after two terrible wars. But how successful have we been?"

He continued: "According to a new study, since 2001 – during the 'Year of the Dialogue of United Nations Civilizations' - 37 million people have been displaced as a result of the 'eternal wars' of the United States."

The foreign minister added: "Eight violent wars that the United States has started or joined since 2001, under the title "War on Terror," have resulted in the loss of hundreds of thousands of innocent lives, the disintegration of countless communities and families, the failure of governments and unprecedented extremism.”

"So today, we have to ask ourselves, 'Is our world more secure or less secure than it was in 1945?' How can we counter the unilateralism and humiliation of the international law by a bully who only knows how to use a big stick and speak arrogantly?” asked Zarif.

He also highlighted: "And how can we contain a power that has spent more than 220 of its 244-year history in war; and 39 military conflicts and nearly 120 economic wars since 1945 - which are deceptively called "sanctions?"

FM Zarif reminded that in fact, no one wins in a war, adding: "It's time to change the approach; save the blood and wealth of Americans and the world from further misery."

"Carefree is the oxygen the United States needs to continue bullying," Zarif told the countries of the world. “The United States' appetite grows only by appeasement, by bowing down to its illegal actions against others, in the hope of curbing its anger. It does not work my friends.”

"At the age of 75, the United Nations needs to commit and unite itself and stand up to unilateralism and war," he said.
