Abdullah Abdullah Iran's support for peace in Afghanistan is important

Tehran (IP) - The Chairman of Afghanistan's High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR), who is visiting Iran, has said that Iran, as a neighboring country, could play an important role in advancing the Afghan peace process.

Iran PressIran news: Abdullah Abdullah, the Chairman of Afghanistan's High Council for National Reconciliation, said that the cooperation of the countries in the region could help advance the peace process and dialogue, adding that the neighboring country's position is vital for Afghanistan in regional and international consultations.

"Fortunately, the positions of Iran and Afghanistan are close," Abdullah said, adding that the Afghan people are looking for a lasting peace as well as preserving the achievements they have sacrificed for it.

Regarding the latest status of the Comprehensive Document on Cooperation between Iran and Afghanistan, the Chairman said that economic relations benefit both countries.

Heading a high-level political and economic delegation, Abdullah Abdullah arrived in Tehran on Sunday (October 18th) on a three-day visit to hold talks with senior Iranian officials.

He has met with President Hassan Rouhani, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Ali Shamkhani, the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), and Minister of Energy Reza Ardakanian.

Abdullah Abdullah has previously traveled to Pakistan and India to build a regional consensus to support the peace process. Talking with the Taliban in Doha can permanently end the war.
