Tehran (IP) - Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh referred to Reuters’ news report about an Iranian diplomat, saying that violation of his diplomatic immunity in Belgium is unacceptable, adding Iran holds the countries involved in this case accountable.

Iran PressIran News: On Wednesday, Khatibzadeh said the allegations made by Reuters and some European media outlets that the Iranian diplomat Assadollah Asadi had warned the Belgian authorities are “superficial news coverage,” adding that such baseless reports are being created for future exploitation.

He emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran considers the arrest of "Assadollah Asadi," a diplomat of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Europe, as an illegal act and violation of international rules and the provisions of the 1961 Vienna Convention and has formally expressed its strong protest to European governments’ officials.

In July 2018, simultaneously with the visit of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to Austria and Switzerland, Belgium claimed that it had arrested Assadollah Asadi on suspicion of attempting to bomb a meeting of the terrorist group meeting MKO in Paris.
