Iran Press/ Middle East: In a TV interview, Fuad al-Hussain said 20 countries expressed concerns over the security of their embassies in Baghdad and called for preventing attacks on diplomatic centers in the Iraqi capital, yet none of them announced moving their embassy in case of the US embassy's closure.
Al-Hussain stressed the maintenance of good relations with the neighboring countries and further said: "Our relations with Iran are good and we are trying to restore our good historical relations with Turkey."
Hussein's remarks about good relations between Iran and Iraq come just days after Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi announced on October 3 that his country was not ashamed of relations with Tehran and that a better future should be built for Iraq.
Elsewhere in his talks, the Iraqi foreign minister pointed to the coming election in summer, expressing hope that the election is held on time.
As for the withdrawal of the US troops from Iraq, approved by the parliament, he said the government of Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi is committed to expelling the US forces and has started negotiations in this regard and achieved some results.
The Iraqi foreign minister added that a specialized committee to be formed after the US presidential election will determine when the US troops will leave Iraq.
Iraqi lawmakers unanimously approved a bill on January 5, demanding the withdrawal of all foreign military forces led by the United States from the country following the assassination of Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, along with Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy head of Iraq's Hashd al-Sha’abi, and their companions in a US airstrike authorized by President Donald Trump near Baghdad International Airport two days earlier.
