Iran Press/Europe: The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the UK, Hamid Baeidinejad, on following the new US sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran in his tweet stated: "the purpose of the new sanctions against almost all Iranian banking and financial institutions is to limit Iran's ability to import essential items needed for treatment of Covid-19.
He said this act is a clear crime against humanity.
Baeidinejad added: "This hated US regime knows no bounds for crimes against its own people and others."
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif also condemned the new US sanctions against Iranian banks on his Twitter account on Thursday, describing them as an attempt to destroy the remaining food and medicine payment channels amid the coronavirus outbreak.
The US Treasury Department imposed sanctions against 18 Iranian banks on Thursday evening (Tehran time).
Following its illegal withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on May 8, 2018, the United States has launched a comprehensive campaign to put pressure on Iran.
Washington has said the goal of the "maximum pressure campaign" against Iran is to reach a new agreement with Tehran that addresses all issues that the US is concerned about.
The move by President Donald Trump's administration has drawn widespread domestic and international condemnation.
The Islamic Republic of Iran, as a key member of the Resistance Front, has a key role to play in countering US-Zionist conspiracies and actions in the region.
