Iran Press/Iran news: Referring to the shooting of bullets (from the territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia) into the Iranian territory, Khatibzadeh, said: "In addition to following up on the issue by our border guards in a meeting with border guards of Azerbaijan and Armenia and the presentation of a formal letter of protest against the attacks on our border areas by the two countries, the Foreign Ministry in an official note expressed its strong protest against bullets and rockets hit inside the country that violates territorial integrity."
"The foreign ministry also informed the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia about the loss of security and financial damages to the Iranian citizens," he noted.
Reiterating that the Islamic Republic of Iran will not neglect the security of its citizens in any way, the foreign ministry spokesman added: "We have asked both sides to take all necessary security measures to prevent the recurrence of such unacceptable incidents in the light of friendly relations while respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran."
Hundreds of people have been killed in the latest outbreak of war over Nagorno-Karabakh, a mountain enclave that belongs to Azerbaijan under international law but is governed by a separatist Armenian-backed leadership.
The Nagorno-Karabakh clashes broke out on September 27, re-igniting a decades-old conflict between the ex-Soviet neighbors over Karabakh.
The conflict between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh region began in 1988. It escalated into a military war in 1992.
Since the beginning of the Karabakh conflict some 10 days ago, Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami said, the Iranian border areas have several times been shelled by mistake.
