Tehran (IP) - Chief of Iran's Presidential Staff Mahmoud Vaezi said that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will not be resolved through war.

Iran Press/Iran news: Responding to Iran Press on the sidelines of a cabinet session on Wednesday, Vaezi stated: "The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will not be resolved through war. The territorial integrity of the countries must be recognized and the occupation must be ended."

He added that President Hassan Rouhani has spoken clearly with the Azerbaijani and Armenian officials in this regard, and Rouhani is scheduled to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin on this issue.

The Nagorno-Karabakh clashes broke out on September 27, re-igniting a decades-old conflict between the ex-Soviet neighbours over Karabakh and threatening to draw in regional powers Russia and Turkey.

The conflict between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, which belongs to the Republic of Azerbaijan, began in 1988. It escalated into a military war in 1992.
