Iran Press/Iran news: During a meeting with Armenian Ambassador to Tehran Artashes Toumanian on Tuesday, Amir-Abdollahian expressed concern over the military conflict between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia, noting that the continuation of this conflict is nothing but the intervention of third parties and possibly great powers with illegitimate interests and the spread of war in the region.
The Iranian official added that the continuation of the war in the Caucasus region will cause insecurity and instability, and Iran is closely monitoring the situation.
Referring to the capacity of parliamentary cooperation to establish peace in the region, he expressed hope that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict would end as soon as possible so that Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan could expand relations in a friendly and peaceful atmosphere and provide the economic and social prosperity for their people.
The Armenian Ambassador to Tehran also praised the constructive role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in contributing to peace and security in the region and expressed that the development of friendly relations with Iran is of great importance to Yerevan.
Referring to the position of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Armenia's foreign policy, Artashes Toumanian stressed the need to strengthen parliamentary exchanges between the two countries.
The Armenian ambassador presented a report on the developments in Nagorno-Karabakh during the meeting.
The Nagorno-Karabakh clashes broke out on September 27, re-igniting a decades-old conflict between the ex-Soviet neighbours over Karabakh and threatening to draw in regional powers Russia and Turkey.
The conflict between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, which belongs to the Republic of Azerbaijan, began in 1988. It escalated into a military war in 1992.
