Iran Press/ America: "In several countries, the share of the public with a favorable view of the US is as low as it has been at any point since the Pew Research Center began polling on this topic nearly two decades ago," the center’s official report summary says.
The US’s reputation was at a record low in six countries: Canada, France, Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom.
Researchers link the decline in America’s reputation to how the US has handled the Coronavirus pandemic.
The report also found that other nations’ approval of President Trump has continued to drop, as they view him more negatively than other world leaders.
The international declines that Pew gauged were widespread, including among the US's traditional allies. In the U.K., for example, Pew found that just 41% of people express a favorable opinion of the US, the lowest recorded rate.
In France, only 31% see the US positively, matching the low level recorded in 2003 when the two countries were at loggerheads over the US-led war in Iraq. Germans are particularly negative in their views of the US, with only 26% of those polled viewing the country favorably, just above the 25% level in 2003, when Germany, like France, opposed the Iraq war.
Since Donald Trump took office as president, the image of the United States has suffered across many regions of the globe.
Pew’s findings were based on a survey of 13,723 people in 13 countries this summer.
