Middle East (IP): The Iraqi president in a meeting with the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Iraq called the forthcoming parliamentary elections crucial and said that the Iraqi government was seeking healthy and transparent elections.

Iran Press/Middle East: Iraqi President Barham Salih said Sunday in a meeting with UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Iraq Jeanine Hennis Plasschaert that Iraq would coordinate with a UN delegation to monitor the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Salih also stressed that the ballot boxes of the future must truly meet the demands of public opinion and meet the demands of the political and service life of the Iraqi people.

Prior to the meeting, the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Iraq met with Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Sistani, Iraq's most prominent Shia cleric, in Najaf.

Early Iraqi parliamentary elections are scheduled for June 6, 2021.
