Iran Press/ Middle East: Iran's envoy to Iraq, Iraj Masjedi said on Monday that this year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, no foreign pilgrim will be allowed in Iraq for the Arba'een processions.
"Iraq’s central government has informed us that it will not allow foreign pilgrims to enter Iraq in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus," Masjedi said.
Arbaeen pilgrimage is a distinctively spiritual exercise, gathering Shias as well as Sunnis, even Christians, and Zoroastrians, etc. from various nationalities altogether making their ways to the holy Iraqi cities of Najaf and Karbala, walking towards the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) commemorating the 40th day of his martyrdom in the battle of Karbala, in 680 AD.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of Iranians take part in the ritual, to pay tribute to the third Shia Imam. 207
