Iran (IP) - The fishing fleet of the Islamic Republic of Iran, with an annual catch of 600,000 tons, was recognized as the second-largest exploiter of marine fish resources in the Indian Ocean after Indonesia.

Iran Press/Iran news: Referring to a total of more than 730,000 tons of sea fishing annually by Iran, Head of the Iranian Fisheries Organization, Nabiullah Khoonmirzaei on Monday said: "35,000 tons of catch in the Caspian Sea, about 50,000 tons in the northwestern Persian Gulf in Khuzestan and 60,000 tons in the fishing grounds of Bushehr province and about 600 thousand tons in the coastal and offshore areas of Sistan and Baluchestan and Hormozgan provinces are gained."

Khunmirzaei added: "Coastal fish resources in the northern and southern seas of Iran are decreasing on a yearly basis, so the development of offshore fishing is a priority."
