Secretary-General of the European External Action Service (EEAS) said that representatives of Iran and remaining members of the nuclear deal with Tehran have agreed in Vienna to do everything possible to preserve the landmark 2015 agreement.

Iran Press/Europe: Helga Schmid, the European Union representative who chaired the meeting, said that the participants are resolved to preserve the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

She said on Twitter:

"Just finished chairing JCPOA Joint Commission. Important to see that participants are united in resolve to preserve the Iran Deal and find a way to ensure full implementation of the agreement despite current challenges."

The meeting of the Joint Commission took place in the context of the failure of US efforts within the framework of the Security Council against the Islamic Republic of Iran in August.

The United Nations Security Council has rejected the US resolution to extend an arms embargo on Iran that is due to expire in October.

Only two of the Council's 15 members voted in favor, highlighting the division between Washington and its European allies since US President Donald Trump withdrew from the nuclear accord in May 2018.

The US attempt to use the trigger mechanism and the automatic return of sanctions against Iran has also failed.
