Mustapha Adib, a Lebanon's diplomat has been appointed to form a new government in the country, nearly a month after an explosion brought devastation to Beirut.

Iran PressMiddle East: Mustapha Adib, the Lebanon ambassador to Germany, was appointed prime minister-designate after he won the backing of the major political parties when he secured 90 votes in the 128-member parliament.

Adib secured at least 66 votes or more than half of the 120 MPs currently serving in the Lebanese parliament after the Christian Free Patriotic Movement announced it had nominated him.

On August 4, a massive explosion took place in a nearby warehouse in the port of Beirut, containing 2,700 tons of ammonium nitrate, following a massive fire in a warehouse that stored flammable stuff.

The Beirut explosion, however, had a strong political dimension to the point that street protests led to the resignation of Lebanese PM Hassan Diab's cabinet.
