White House halts reporting to Congress on election security

The newly appointed director of national intelligence for the Trump administration has announced that he will stop reporting to the US Congress on the upcoming election security.

Iran PressAmerica: John Ratcliffe, a former member of the US House of Representatives who was recently appointed as Director of National Intelligence by US President Donald Trump, announced about the security of the 2020 presidential election that he would suspend face-to-face reporting sessions on election security.

According to the report by Rueters, Ratcliffe has informed the Senate and the US House of Representatives that he will henceforth report to Congress in writing on election security; an action that  prevents members of Congress from pressuring White House for more intelligence and details.

The decision has drawn sharp criticism from US House Democrats, who have focused on foreign efforts to influence the 2016 presidential election and the upcoming election in 2020.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi described the move as shirking the White House's legal responsibility to keep Congress informed and a betrayal of the right of the people to be aware of foreign efforts to undermine democracy.

Ratcliffe was previously a member of the US House of Representatives and the House Intelligence Committee, who strongly defended Trump and his stance during the investigation into Russia's alleged involvement in the 2016 US election.

The results of the new polls in the United States continue to show the lead of the Democratic candidate Joe Biden in the November 2020 US presidential election against current US President Donald Trump.

The US presidential election will be held on November 3, 2020.

Americans are deeply dissatisfied with Trump's poor performance dealing with the coronavirus, as well as his support for suppressing anti-racist protests.
