New chapter in Iran-Russia defense cooperation begins

The Minister of Defense Brigadier General Amir Hatami stated that with the end of the arms embargo on Iran after October 17, we will begin a new chapter in defense cooperation with Russia.

Iran PressIran News: Iranian Minister of Defence Brigadier General Hatami, who was on a two-day trip to Russia, answered questions about his travel plans and Iran-Russia defense cooperation in an interview with Russia 24 tv channels.

Iran-Russia cooperation is expanding

Hatami noted in the interview: "Iran-Russia cooperation is expanding in various fields. We use Russian weapons on land, air, and sea. These weapons and equipment showed good performance."

Iran's Defence Minister also stressed that during the sanctions period, we became the manufacturer of weapons and achieved great success in this field and we are building UAVs.

Good cooperation between Iran and Russia in Syria

"In my meeting with the Russian Defense Minister, Hatami stated that what Iran did in Syria has yielded good results and can be a model of effective and fair cooperation for the world."

However, Iran, Russia can work together to strengthen peace and security in other countries where there is no military conflict."

Hatami went on to say that in addition to these, we have two government agreements in 2001 and 2015, in which our capabilities are listed, which include technical-military contacts, joint research and production. There is a lot of room for cooperation and if the two sides use their facilities, we will see great progress in this regard.

In response to a question regarding the possibility of concluding a military agreement between Iran and Russia after the lifting of the arms embargo on October 17, Hatami replied: "I emphasize that there is no arms embargo against us but there are restrictions on the purchase of weapons which we do not consider it fair. However, given that Resolution 2231 was approved by the Security Council, we abide by it."

He added: "This restriction will expire on October 17, and when it does, noting the depth of our cooperation, Iran and Russia will need to sign a new agreement, and relations will expand, and we will discuss possibilities and capabilities."
