Iran Press/ Europe: Senior Assistant to Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ali Asghar Khaji, who traveled to Geneva on Monday to attend the Astana Process Summit on the sidelines of the third meeting of the Syrian Constitutional Committee, met with Alexander Lavrentiev, the Russian president's special envoy for Syria.
During the meeting, which took place at the Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, the two sides referred to the developments in the Constitutional Committee and its third meeting, which is being held by the three countries, the guarantors of the Astana process and the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Syria and the Syrian sides. They emphasized the importance of supporting the continuation and success of the job of the Constitutional Committee.
Ali Asghar Khaji, referring to the successes of the Astana process, emphasized the continuation of dialogue and cooperation between the countries that guarantee the Astana process.
Referring to the role of the Astana process in resolving the Syrian crisis, Lavrentiev stressed the need to hold summits in Tehran and a meeting of senior experts in the Nursultan before that.
The two sides concluded by emphasizing the need for further consultation for the success of the Constitutional Committee's mission.
Iran, Turkey, and Russia, as guarantors of the Astana process, are working to resolve the Syrian crisis.
