Iraq obtains new evidence of assassins in southern provinces

A spokesman for the commander-in-chief of the Iraqi armed forces said they had obtained important clues about those behind the assassination of a number of activists in Basra.

Iran PressMiddle East: According to Mawazin News, Brigadier General Yahya Rasoul, spokesman for the commander-in-chief of the Iraqi armed forces, said that there was no need for a major security operation in Basra, but for a precise intelligence operation that the intelligence services were able to carry out.

Yahya Rasoul also announced the change of security officials in Basra in the coming days.

Iraqi Interior Minister Osman al-Ghanimi also said that security in Basra would be achieved through the efforts of the people and the security forces together.

Al-Fatah coalition lawmaker Fazel Jaber also warned the government, security agencies, and demonstrators of turning the Dhi Qar center into a "second Fallujah", citing the intervention of intelligence elements from several Arab countries to escalate the situation in Dhi Qar province.

The southern regions of Iraq, including Basra and Dhi Qar, have witnessed popular protests in recent days, in which gunmen abused and assassinated several activists.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi traveled to Basra on Saturday evening with the interior minister and a number of security officials to discuss the need to restore stability to the southern provinces and to confront illegal groups seeking to create chaos in those areas by abusing the protests.
