US unilateralism a threat to world peace, security: Iran parliament speaker

Tehran (IP) - The speaker of the Iranian parliament called US unilateralism a threat to world peace, and security, stating that global multilateralism and solidarity is the most important way out of global challenges, achieving sustainability and development, peace and security for future generations of humanity.

Iran Press/Iran News: Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on the second day of the 5th World Conference of Speakers of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), which was held via video conference on Thursday evening, said: "It is necessary to find new and suitable methods for achieving effective and genuine multilateralism today, with many challenges and pressures, including nationalist thinking, unilateralism, economic terrorism, systematic human rights abuses, and ethnic cleansing, especially in some areas of the world such as the Occupied Palestinian Territory."

Ghalibaf added: "Most of these challenges stem from the unilateral and expansionist actions taken by US officials in different historical periods."

The speaker of the Iranian parliament pointed out that the United States is at the top of the political systems that violate the international law today and instead of joining the global movement to form a united front against the coronavirus, US rulers by exploiting the conditions of the COVID-19 Pandemic and ignoring the deaths of millions of infected people, are simply trying to make their own profit."

Ghalibaf stressed: "Believing in the positive effects of real and effective multilateralism and global solidarity in the face of challenges, the Iranian parliament is committed to strong and effective cooperation with the world's parliaments."

The Fifth Conference of the Speakers of the World Assemblies, held every five years in collaboration with the United Nations and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, was hosted by Austria on August 19 and 20 and held via video conferencing.
