The head of the Iraqi Rule of Law Coalition, i al-Maliki

Baghdad (IP) - The head of the Iraqi Rule of Law Coalition said that Iraq seeks to strengthen relations and strategic partnership with Russia.

Iran Press/Middle East: According to the statement by the office of the former Iraqi Prime Minister on Sunday, Nouri al-Maliki, in a meeting with the Russian Ambassador to Baghdad, stressed that Iraq seeks to have a strategic partnership with Russia in all areas, including health and the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

Noting that Russia is highly respected and praised by the Iraqi government and people, he added that he expects more cooperation and joint work in all areas between the two friendly countries.

Russia's Ambassador to Baghdad Maksim Maksimovic added that Moscow was ready to assist and cooperate with Iraq in all areas.

According to Maksimovic, contacts and communications with the Iraqi Ministry of Health are currently underway to fight the COVID-19 to use Russia's experience in this field.

During the meeting, regional and international developments, issues of common concern, including the pandemic consequences of the coronavirus, falling global oil prices, and its impact on the economic situation in Iraq and the world have been discussed.

Al-Maliki is a supporter of the development of relations between Iraq and Russia, and during his tenure as Prime Minister, he built this relationship by buying Russian weapons.

Following the outbreak of the coronavirus in Iraq, the country has begun cooperating to use Russian health and medical knowledge and experience in controlling the disease, despite US opposition.

Iraq and Russia have been cooperating in the fight against terrorism in the Quartet of Cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran and Syria, based in Baghdad, for several years.
