During a press conference with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, the President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region praised Iran's assistance in maintaining stability in the region.

Iran PressMiddle East: "Iran is an important neighbor of Iraq, the Kurdistan Region and regional power," Nechirvan Barzani, head of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, told a joint news conference with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Erbil on Sunday night.

In this press conference, "Nechirvan Barzani" mentioned Iran's assistance to the Iraqi government and people and added that the Iraqi people will never forget the assistance of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

Referring to his meeting with Zarif tonight, Barzani said: "He has talked with the Iranian Foreign Minister about the political situation in the region and also about the impact of the Coronavirus on the activities of both sides."

During the press conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Javad Zarif, the President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, Nichervan Barzani, thanked the Iranian Ambassador to Baghdad, Iraj Masjidi, and the Consul General in the Kurdistan Region for their continuous efforts to improve relations between Kurdistan and Tehran.

Zarif also stressed at the press conference that the Kurdistan Region and Iraq are important for Iran, adding that Iran has always wanted to develop relations and cooperation with Iraq.

The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran referred to the friendly relations between the two countries and added that Iran seeks to develop relations with Iraq in all fields, especially in the energy sector.

Zarif arrived in Baghdad on Sunday morning at the head of a political delegation and left Baghdad for Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, after meeting with Iraqi officials.

In Baghdad, Zarif met with the Iraqi President, the Prime Minister, the Speaker of the Parliament, the Foreign Minister, the Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council, the Head of the Popular Mobilization Forces, the Chairman of the Fatah Coalition and the Leader of the Iraqi National Wisdom Movement.

In these meetings, international, regional issues, and the case of the assassination of Major General Ghasem Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and Abu Mahdi al-Mohandes, the deputy head of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces, were discussed.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif tweeted on Sunday before leaving for the Iraqi Kurdistan region that his consultations with Iraqi officials were productive.

Upon arrival in Iraq, Iranian Foreign Minister visited the site where top Iranian Commander Lieutenant General Ghasem Soleimani, Second-in-Command of the Iraqi Mobilization Units Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis as well as their companions who were martyred near Baghdad International Airport and paid tribute to them.
