Tehran (IP) - Referring to the illegal sanctions against the Islamic Republic in the last 40 years, the Iranian Minister of Defense said the sanctions have had no effect on Iran's defense progress.

Iran PressIran news: Brigadier General Amir Hatami, Iran's Minister of Defense on Tuesday in response to the US government's measures to extend Iran's arms embargo said: "Washington's attempt to extend arms embargo will not succeed."

Brigadier General Hatami stated: "Considering that the request of the US government to extend the arms embargo on Iran is excessive and biased, "Countries around the world will not back down from this request and will not side with the United States."

The United States is currently trying to prevent the lifting of the arms embargo on Iran, despite the agreement of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and UN Security Council Resolution 2231, under the false pretext of being threatening to lift the arms embargo on Iran.

Pursuant to Security Council Resolution 2231, the arms embargo on Iran will be lifted on October 18, 2020.
